It is built where the platform of a pre-Hispanic building known as Backluumchaan was. Since the founding of the Spanish city, the Municipal Palace, as can be seen, has its origins in a two-level construction with corridors and arches built in the colony and that has had several modifications.

In this site the independence of Yucatán from the Spanish Crown was achieved, as well as its annexation to Mexico.

The Clock Tower

One of the most representative symbols of the city is the Palace tower with its monumental clock that was installed in 1929 when the palace was remodeled and the tower was added, it is a wind-up clock from the Seth Tomas brand and all its bronze gear is entirely original.

We recommend visiting the balcony of the Municipal Palace from where you will have a panoramic view of the main square and the San Idelfonso cathedral.
