Ek Balam Mayan Ruins is one of Latter archaeological sites discovered in the Yucatan Peninsula and is perhaps one of the most important Mayan ruins ever found.
Ek Balam (The black Jaguar or Tiger Star) is located north of the colonial city of Valladolid, halfway between Merida and Cancun. Take the road to reach Cancun, Merida, Valladolid exit and head north towards the city of Tizimin. From Cancun or Merida, the trip takes more than two hours.
Ek Balam is composed of several temples, two palaces and a huge pyramid in the center of the city.
Ek Balam occupied since the late formative period, before the fourth century to the colonial period and there are historical sources that claim, which was an important center for the region during the Postclassic.
A court sacbe (White Road) bordered by trees, you come to one of the few hits that open on both walls that surround this ancient Mayan city, leading to a large square flanked by large domed building and a set of ball.

Room 29 and Stone Sculpture
This section has been enabled and opened to admire the stone and stucco panels on the facade of Room 29.
Structure 10
This building forms the eastern side of the South Plaza and despite being the largest of it, it is small next to structures 1, 2 and 3 of the central plaza.
Structure 17
Structure 17, which we name Las Gemelas, is located to the west of the South Plaza and is the one with the best preserved architectural features.
Walls
Each of the 3 walls is 3 meters wide and must have been 1.5 meters high. Its walls originally covered with stucco and painted.
Sak Be 2
Sak Bé No. 2 is one of the two pre-Hispanic roads that give access to the site from the south side; the other is Sak Bé No. 1.
Structure 12
It is a very peculiar construction of a very long and narrow shape. This is why together with structure 11 it has been called the "Third Wall".
