The church of Santa Elena is located at the head of the municipality of the same name, apparently it was built in 1779, on a pre-Hispanic mound in the center of town, before 1848 this town was known as Nohcacab (the great town ).

The church building consists of atrium, temple, sacristy, and the priest's house with two courtyards.

Because the temple is located on a mound, it was the reason to build a ramp with stone steps, bordered by a masonry railing, which begins with a pillar on each side.

The building is tall and has a single body covered by a barrel vault, it has two side doors, the main one looks to the west, seven high windows are also conserved, the façade has two low bell towers, to the right of the entrance is the baptistery, the choir is on a masonry arch, with a concrete floor and a wooden railing, in addition to the central nave there are four chapels, two on each side and tucked into the thickness of the wall with a masonry base and a concrete floor respectively.
