Founded in 1890, the town of Dzitya has been a place of artisans since its inception, as it was precisely they who formed it. These people worked with wood and stone to make pieces such as chocolate beaters, this with the wood that they collected after long days away from home, when they reached their homes they began the work supported by a lathe that at that time was used manually. and with which it was only possible to produce two beaters per day.

Many things have changed in Dzitya, but the tradition of wood and stone as a representative element of the population continues and grows stronger, to such a degree that their crafts have reached fairs and exhibitions in the interior of the country.

Wood Carved Crafts, Dzitya Yucatan

Currently, there are 23 families living in this site who are dedicated to artisan work, now having electric lathes that allow the process to be more agile, thus, what used to produce two objects today offers the opportunity to create five, in the same amount of time.

The quality of the products that can be found here is such that there are those who already have regular customers, many of them are restaurants and hotels in Merida, Cancun, Riviera Maya and even European visitors who come to the town with the intention of obtaining the best specimens.

Among the objects made in Dzitya, wooden kitchen utensils such as ladles, napkin rings and fruit-shaped containers stand out, but they also make traditional toys with this same material.

As for stone carving, you can find various decorative figures, from small table fountains to some large ones for the patio; in the same way, vases and pots are made, both in wood and in stone.
