The town of Cuzamá is known nationally and internationally for its beautiful cenotes, some inhabitants mention that there are more than 300 in the area and although not all of them are open to the public, one of the routes that you should not miss is the Tourist Parador X’tohil that has 4 cavern-type cenotes.
We will do the tour in “Truck” which is a cart with metal wheels (like those of the train) that go on a rail and is pulled by horses, these carts have been adapted with seats so that they can fit 4 people perfectly seated.
“Did you know that “Trucks” they were used in the old haciendas of Yucatan to collect the henequen leaves from the field and take them to the shredder, these, unlike those of today, were twice as large and were pulled by donkeys”
During our tour we will visit 4 Cenotes.
- Cenote X’tohil
- Cenote San Felipe
- Cenote Ayuso
- Cenote Sack Pakal
Once we settle into our seats we will begin our adventure entering the mountains of Yucatan, we recommend that you keep your eyes open very well because depending on the time of day we will be able to observe birds, wild boars, deer and even on some occasions one or another tigrillo.
Cenote X'tohil.
Our first stop will be at Cenote X’Tohil there you will see that just behind the entrance of the cenote there is an ancient Mayan pyramid that has been restored by the members of the cooperative and although it is small it indicates that this area was inhabited by the ancient Mayans.
Here we will go down some wooden stairs, we ask you to be very careful because it is quite steep, so it is important to watch where you step and hold on tight to the handrail until you go down where there is a wooden platform and on one side a stone platform, the vault of the cenote is large and very well lit, natural light gives a spectacular effect in the morning until noon.
The water of the cenote ranges from light blue to a more intense color and its waters are crystal clear with a depth of up to 30 meters, on the other side you can see stalactites, stalagmites and colonnades. (Please don't touch them so they don't break or stunt growth.)
Cenote San Felipe
The second cenote that we will visit is called San Felipe and is divided into 2 sections and to access it we will go down some metal stairs approximately 15 meters, looking up you will be surprised by an immense tree whose roots descend to the cenote looking for water, this part of the cenote is not suitable for swimming but you can observe and take photos.
We will walk to the other side where we will cross a wooden bridge to reach the Cenote San Felipe, which is smaller compared to the X’Tohil like a small natural pool surrounded by huge stones that were part of the ceiling and were falling with the Over the years, you will also see some small stalagmites that have been growing over the years.
Cenote Ayuso.
This cenote is cave-type and an opening in the stone gives us the entrance to go directly to the mirror of water by means of a wooden ladder, its waters are crystal clear from light green to emerald green in its deepest part, it has 2 ropes security that go from one end to the other of the cenote, one on the left side and one on the right side, in the back if you go swimming you can see an immense colonnade that has formed over the years and a beautiful petrified waterfall .
